Welcome to Aluma!

Aluma is a platform that gives you access to a powerful set of intelligent document processing capabilities, enabling industry-leading data capture from even the most complex scanned or electronic documents.

The Aluma platform includes:

  • A secure, fast, resilient (and battle-tested!) cloud service for high-performance processing of documents, including OCR, document separation, document type identification and data extraction.
  • The Admin portal, which enables administrators and supervisors to manage projects, users and tasks (documents) and view insightful analytics that help you get the most out of Aluma's automation and your users.
  • The Validation portal, for any manual review of documents that may be required.
  • The File System Agent (a Windows or Linux application) for ingestion of files from a folder and export of data back to files in a folder.

Developers can create integrations with Aluma using the Aluma Tasks API, enabling import of documents from, and export of data to, any other system.

Concepts

Tasks

A Task represents the processing of a single file through the processing workflow. A task may contain one document, or more than one document to be automatically separated.

You can create tasks using the Aluma File System agent or by creating an integration with another system using the API.

Once a task has been created, it is processed asynchronously by Aluma and is queued automatically for validation by a user (if necessary) and then for export.

You can export data using the Aluma File System agent or by creating an integration with another system using the API.

Projects

A Project defines settings for a specific set of documents ("Medical records" vs. "Insurance claims" for example). The project settings control how a task containing those documents should be processed, including:

  • Whether files are expected to include multiple documents that should be separated automatically.
  • If multiple document types are expected, how these document types should be identified.
  • The fields to be captured for each document type and the configuration that defines how these should be captured.
  • Any data validations and validation portal settings relevant to the fields.
  • The naming, format and content of document and data output files that are required.

The Aluma team will consult with you over your requirements, create a project for you and provide this as a file with an .alproj extension. You can upload this to your account in the Aluma app.
